Grass Cornet
A tall wood container is topped with a plume of soft grasses, like a huge ice- cream cornet. The creamy-white, starry flowerheads of baby's breath (Gypsophila) froth over the vase rim; fat furry Setaria grass curls over, and the whole is topped with a fountain of grasses, the long strappy leaves cascading down the arrangement. There are many different types of grasses now available in florists. Prince of Wales' feathers (Celosia plumosa) and astilbe are also fluffy, plume-like and soft to touch; or for contrast add the translucent silvery seedpods of honesty (Lunaria), like tiny full moons. Scabious and love in a mist (Nigella) also have interesting papery seedheads.
